Yes, our new mat has the same stinky plastic smell. We've been airing it out for two days, and the house smells of it. We are returning it. I'm concerned that something that smells so terrible can't be good for little bodies that are sensitive to chemicals. There is no way we are going to keep this cute mat.

This mat does everything a good bath mat should. It covers most of our tub, sticks well to the bottom and is colorful. I was a little worried after reading reviews that it would smell, but there was no smell at all. We would definitely purchase this again.

I'm not sure why so many people had such a large problem with the smell of this item. it did have a smell in the very beginning, but most plastic items or rubber items do now-a-days... it faded quickly and certainly wasn't so strong that I couldn't stand it. and I am sensitive to smells... I love this bath mat! it covers great on the tub, sticks well, is colorful and fun, and helps a lot for the slipping!!!
must buy!
